This Maker Break event is inspired by African American quilting traditions and styles such as scrap quilts and story quilts. Participants will combine painting, fabric and visual storytelling to create pieces of art that share personal stories, biographies or stories written in preparation for the residency.

Attendees will also get the chance to learn about famous quilters and view some of their work. They will discuss how a picture can tell a story while using a variety of materials to make quilts of their own. This Maker Break session will be led by COMPAS Teaching Artist Mica Lee Anders and is made possible by the Minnesota Arts & Cultual Legacy Fund.
