Metro State Theater, Theater Underground, and Minneapolis College presents Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis at the Whitney Fine Arts Theater.
In the play, Gregor Samsa, an overworked salesperson, wakes up from disturbing dreams to find he has transformed into a giant insect-like creature. His new condition disorients the Samsa family who depend on him for their bread and butter. Gregor can’t communicate, can’t get enough to eat, and he certainly can’t head into work. His desperation grows, as does that of his family; the world they once knew is now crawling up the wall.
Directed by Metro State Theater faculty Jonathan Beller, this surreal adaptation of Kafka’s most popular and influential novella explores themes such as family relations, alienation, and identity, as well as the universal expressions of isolation and existential angst.
