10 students awarded scholarships by Consulate of Mexico

Ten Metropolitan State University students were awarded scholarships from the Mexican Consulate’s Institute of Mexicans Abroad [IME] Fellowship Program.

Head Consul Alberto Fierro of the Consulate of Mexico in Saint Paul visited Metropolitan State University Saint Paul Campus, March 18, to confer the award at a ceremony. The program is designed to assist Latino students of Mexican origin. Awardees are Kimberly Veles Espinoza, Moises Delatorre, Pedro Gutierrez, Michel Morales-Martinez, Silvia Garcia, Diego Hernandez, Sandra Velazquez Hernandez, Marinda Rodriguez, Alondra Velazquez and Donna Pena.

A proposal prepared by Dr. Herbert King, dean of students; Santos Martínez, director of Multicultural Affairs; and Eduardo Gutíerrez, admissions counselor, Chicano/Latino Liaison, helped to secure the scholarships. Through the help and support of Metropolitan State University Provost and Executive Vice President Ginny Arthur, the university agreed to partner with the consulate by matching the scholarship funds.
