Get fresh, local produce each week by joining a CSA

Are you interested in tasty, healthy, locally grown produce? It’s not too late to purchase a share in a local community-supported agriculture (CSA) enterprise for the summer. CSAs bring growers and consumers together to make fresh food more affordable while directly supporting growers, sustainable farming practices and, often, a broader mission.

Members buy a share in a farm in advance of the growing season and, in turn, receive a weekly share of the farm’s bounty during the summer growing season. CSAs are full of surprises and make food fun!

Two of the university’s nonprofit community partners offer CSA shares at pick-up sites conveniently located near the Saint Paul and Midway campuses.

HAFA LogoThe Hmong American Farmers Association (HAFA) is dedicated to advancing the prosperity of Hmong farmers through cooperative endeavors, capacity building and advocacy. HAFA’s 12-Week Summer Share includes 6-8 varieties weekly of staple and specialty produce, a bouquet of flowers on the first and last weeks, seasonal recipes and a free canning class in August—for $275 if you sign up by April 1; $330 if you sign up by June 1. Deliveries are made on Wednesdays, July 6– Sept. 21, 2016, for pick-up at one of these Saint Paul locations:

  • East Side Enterprise Center, 804 Margaret Street (5 blocks east of the Saint Paul campus)
  • HAFA office, 941 Lafond Avenue (Frogtown neighborhood)
  • Nexus Community Partners office, 2314 University Avenue (at Raymond)

Other options include a 5-week Fall Vegetable Share with a pie-making class, a one-time Thanksgiving Share and “Extras” by arrangement. Your share supports the Hmong legacy of nourishing communities through small-scale agriculture. For information and to sign up visit or contact or at 651-493-8091.

Urban Roots LogoUrban Roots builds vibrant and healthy communities through food, conservation and youth development. Their youth-run CSA now enters its 16th season, operating from six urban production sites on the east side of Saint Paul. The CSA includes a mix of over 50 high-quality heirloom and standard varieties of vegetables, herbs and occasional flowers. Urban Roots offers a 10-week Summer Garden Share (June-August) for $250 and a 16-week Extended Garden Share (June-October) for $400. A tax-deductible portion of each share ($50 or $80, respectively) supports the growth, education and incomes of area youth through Urban Roots’ gardening, health and cooking, and conservation programs. Other benefits include recipes and samples, special events, opportunities to meet the young growers and knowing that your share supports their learning, community action, hard work and connections to the environment. Wednesday pick-ups occur from 3:30–7:30 p.m. at 463 Maria Avenue, Saint Paul. For information and to sign up visit or call Urban Roots, 651-228-7073.
