Metropolitan State University’s Social Work Student Association will bring the Out of the Darkness Campus Walk to the Saint Paul campus.
The Out of the Darkness Campus Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, support, and a walk that unites a campus and community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones. We all wear honor beads – each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience. Suggested colors include:
- White: Lost a child
- Red: Lost a spouse or partner
- Gold: Lost a parent
- Orange: Lost a sibling
- Purple: Lost a relative or friend
- Silver: Lost a first responder/military
- Green: Struggled personally
- Blue: Support the cause
- Teal: Friends and/or family who struggles
When you participate in an Out of the Darkness Walk, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy and support survivors of suicide loss.
As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20 percent by 2025.
