March 16: Career Ideas Festival

The annual Career Ideas Festival is considered the Career Center’s signature event. This year the festival will be 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 16 in the Founder’s Hall Auditorium, Saint Paul Campus.

The first 200 students to register will receive a free copy of The 20-Minute Networking Meeting and can register by clicking the link here:

Staff and faculty are also welcome to attend and may register here:

Check in is 8:30 to 9 a.m., grab a cup of coffee and network. Author Marcia Ballinger will give a keynote presentation from 9 to 9:45 a.m., speaking on her new book The 20-Minute Networking Meeting. The keynote is followed by an employer panel of leading executives from some of Minnesota’s top companies. Attendees are invited to stay the duration of the event to mingle and network.

Ballinger is a co-founder and principal at Ballinger|Leafblad, Saint Paul-based executive search firm focused on serving the civic sector.  She conducts executive search projects for top executives in non-profit organizations, higher education, foundations and professional associations. She also has extensive background in corporate searches.  A frequent presenter to groups of executives, Ballinger is known as a no-nonsense representative of the executive search industry.

“Over 80 percent of people who land jobs do so through connections and word of mouth. Yet, few people focus on networking,” Career Center Director Bill Baldus said. “Ballinger is an expert and will give a crash course. Her book is a simple enough program that students can pick up and implement right away.”
