Working up an appetite is all too common amongst college students. You have another class to attend in 30 minutes, and need sustenance that won’t break the bank. What does the Metropolitan State University, Saint Paul campus have to offer?

New to the Student Center in 2016, is Alimama, which got its start as a food truck, offers everything from Mediterranean cuisine, to burgers. The hit of this establishment seems to be the pillow-like sambusas. This is a great place to spread out with homework, and refuel with locally-sourced, hand-crafted food.

Location: Student Center, first floor

Best deal: Two sambusas and a side salad or fries for $5.

If you’re willing to step a few feet off campus, Carbone’s Pizzeria is a neighborhood classic. The welcoming interior plays second fiddle to classically wonderful smells that invite you inside. During a short visit, you’ll hear staff call customers by name, and you’ll get a sense of the history this pizzeria has to offer.

Location: 680 7th Street East (Across from Burger King)

Best deal: Lunch special: Two slices and a beverage for $4.99.

Metropolitan State University also provides a Food Pantry, available to all current students. The pantry offers many, rotating options for snacks, as well as take-home meals.

Location: Founder’s Hall room 201A.

The deal: Snacks and meals at no cost to students
