Carly Sturm selected Metropolitan State University Outstanding Graduate Student for Spring 2021 graduating class

Posted May 27, 2021

Carly Sturm of Saint Paul has been selected a spring semester Outstanding Graduate Student at Metropolitan State University.

Sturm is one of 10 Metropolitan State students recognized at the President’s Outstanding Student Award Reception on May 1, 2021. President’s Outstanding Student Award recipients are nominated by their professors and advisers and selected based on their academic excellence, community service, academic innovation in the educational program and professional achievement.

Sturm graduates from the Master of Business Administration program with a concentration in Management Information Systems and graduate certificate in business analytics and was chosen Outstanding Graduate Student in the university’s College of Management. She is one of 1,018 students receiving bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees at Metropolitan State’s 108th commencement exercises, which will be celebrated with an online ceremony on May 8, 2021.

She plans to return to Metropolitan State in the fall to complete the Master of Science in Management Information Systems program, which prepares graduates for management, high-level work and potential leadership in management information systems and related fields, and general management in organizations where information technology is important. The program targets working adults who desire high quality applied MIS education along with solid theory.

“I appreciated the opportunity to take online classes whenever possible,” Sturm says. She chose Metropolitan State after hearing how great the university is for non-traditional, working students. “I was afraid that it would be too hard to take full semesters while trying to work and handle my other responsibilities, but it went really well!”

Sturm works as a program director for a sober living company. She is originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan, and now calls Saint Paul home. She lives with her two cats, Hank and Maeve, and plays softball. She loves to binge shows and play computer games.

Metropolitan State University, a member of Minnesota State, is the Twin Cities’ public, urban, comprehensive state university providing lifelong learning and competitive academic and professional degree programs at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels.
