Governor Tim Walz issued a proclamation naming May 7, 2022, Metro State University Day in the State of Minnesota. This special recognition is part of the celebration of Metro State's 50th anniversary and 110th Commencement. In honor of this occasion, the Metro State community is encouraged to post comments and photos to social media on May 7.

The proclamation

WHEREAS: Metro State University now celebrates its fiftieth anniversary as an institution of higher learning, having since 1971 served the people of Minnesota, particularly of the Twin Cities metropolitan area; and

WHEREAS: Metro State is committed to academic excellence by providing accessible, high-quality education to its diverse students, and is purposeful and ceaseless in its work to build a more equitable world that challenges the historically exclusionary nature of higher education, establishing a racial issues graduation requirement designed to expand students' critical knowledge of the role race, racism, and anti-racism play in society and to embolden students to live and work successfully in an increasingly diverse society; and

WHEREAS: Metro State is committed to achieving its mission through curriculum, teaching, scholarship, community partnerships, and services designed to support the pursuit and application of knowledge and lifelong learning through unique lived experiences, discoveries, and community-engaged learning and outreach to build on its national reputation for innovative student-centered programs that enable people from a wide array of backgrounds to achieve their educational goals; and

WHEREAS: Metro State is the urban, public, comprehensive Minnesota State university in the Twin Cities metropolitan area to provide excellent, accessible, and engaging educational programs and services in a student-centered environment; and

WHEREAS: Metro State students, alumni, faculty, and staff reflect the rich diversity of the State of Minnesota and together build a culturally competent and anti-racist learning community and demonstrate an unwavering commitment to civic engagement; and

WHEREAS: Metro State through its graduates has created an alumni community of more than 50,000 degree recipients, who, as stewards for civic engagement and social justice, are positively impacting communities throughout the State of Minnesota; and

WHEREAS: Metro State is recognized in national rankings as an accelerator for the social mobility and economic achievement and advancement for our graduates and their families, lifting their economic, social, and civic wellbeing and leading to their roles as catalysts for positive change in their communities; and

WHEREAS: the State of Minnesota is a committed partner in eradicating systemic racism, which has resulted in chronic cycles of educational, economic, health, and social disparities; and

WHEREAS: the State of Minnesota recognizes Metro State University for its work to foster a positive learning, working, and living environment across its Twin Cities locations, in which every member of the university community is valued and all individuals have the opportunity to succeed.

Now, Therefore, I, Tim Walz, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim Saturday, May 7, 2022 as:

Metro State University Day in the State of Minnesota.

In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Minnesota to be affixed at the State Capitol this 18th day of April.

Social media contest rules

Overview
The Metro State University Day Contest celebrates the proclamation that May 7 is Metro State University Day in the State of Minnesota. Join in the contest and encourage your friends and loved ones to participate! Winners will receive gear that features the university's new brand. 

Eligibility
Open to all. No purchased required. Void where prohibited.

Entry Period
The contest entry period will be May 7, 2022.
 
How to Enter
A participant can enter the contest by creating a social media comment on specific Metro State University contest posts during the entry period or creating a public social media post that tags the appropriate Metro State social media profile and/or includes the hashtags #MetroStateUniversityDay and #MetroStateImpacts during the entry period. The contest will run on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
 
Prizes
Prizes include ten (10) Metro State sweatshirts.
 
Selection of winners
Winners will be chosen after May 7 and before May 13. Winners will be determined by voting of public social media likes or similar reactions. Tabulation will be done by a member of Metro State University's marketing and communications department and winners will be contacted by a member of Metro State University's marketing and communications department.

Rights Granted by the Entrant
Participants agree that their post may be publicly featured in Metro State newsletters, on the Metro State website, or other promotional purposes.

Agreement to Rules
Metro State University reserves the right to refuse, withdraw, or disqualify entries at its sole discretion. Participants agree to accept the decision of Metro State as final and binding. By participating in the contest, individuals have affirmatively reviewed, accepted, and agreed to all of the contest rules.
