Report of assault and attempted theft

A safety concern pertaining to assault and attempted bike theft was reported to the campus Safety Officer. The incident occurred on Oct. 13, 2017 at approximately 2:15 p.m. The victim, who is not a member of our university community, reported that a male approached him near the Northwest corner of Seventh street and Maria Ave and asked for this bike. The victim refused to give it and the suspect hit him with a bike tire. The police were contacted and took a report from the victim. Although technically a public issue, we are following up with best safety practices for our student and staff. Campus Safety Officers have been conducting additional tours in the area and monitoring exterior cameras. Metropolitan State University will continue to work with the local police department to also increase their patrol in the area.
