Report of robberies near MCTC Campus
A message from Minneapolis Community and Technical College:
MCTC Public Safety was recently notified by the Minneapolis Police Department of three robberies which occurred off campus.
The first incident occurred in front of the Basilica of St. Mary on Thursday, Oct. 6 at approximately 3:30 a.m. According to the Minneapolis Police report the victim was robbed at the location above and the suspect was gone on arrival by the police.
The second robbery occurred on Oct. 16 at approximately 12:10 a.m. on North 15th Street. The Minneapolis Police report the victim was approached by 1-4 suspects who demanded money at gunpoint. The victim lost his wallet and cell phone. The suspects are strangers to the victim. The suspects fled on foot after the robbery.
The third robbery occurred on Oct. 23 at approximately 6:15 p.m. on North 15th Street. The Minneapolis Police report does not provide any additional information except that the victim was robbed. All three incidents have occurred during times when the MCTC campus was closed and there is no known affiliation or connection to the campus in any of the robberies.

Prevention tips
- When walking remain in well-lit and popularly traveled routes.
- Walk with a friend or call public safety for an escort.
- Remain alert and aware of your surroundings while walking. Be mindful of your surroundings and don’t become engrossed in your personal electronic devices.
Remember to take the following steps if you are a victim of a crime:
- Report crimes immediately to the police. If the crime occurs on or near MCTC property, please call the MCTC Public Safety Department Emergency line at 612-659-6900 and the Minneapolis Police Department using 911.
- Try to remember the description of the suspect(s), which includes:
- approximate age
- height
- weight
- details on hair
- clothing
- scars
- tattoos or any type of distinguishing characteristic
