How do I get to the library?

The library is located at 645 E. Seventh Street in St. Paul.

Where can I get my student ID made or replace a lost ID?

You should get your photo ID as soon as possible. Our ID Services page has more information.

Where is the library lost & found located?

It is located at the Computer Help Desk on the first floor of the library. You can call (651) 793-1634, or send an email to check and see if we have your item.

What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) can help you get something that is not available at the library. ILL will look in a different library, find what you need, request a copy, and make it available to you within 1-5 business days. Most ILL copies can be emailed to you!

How can I get help using the library?

The library has three desks that can help you:

  • The Reference Desk at (651) 793-1614 has librarians who are ready to help you find scholarly resources and build your research skills. You can also send an email or use the Ask a Librarian 24-hour chat service on our homepage.
  • The Computer Help Desk at (651) 793-1634 helps with questions about technology, booking study rooms, and printing. You can call or send an email.
  • The Circulation Desk at (651) 793-1616 can answer questions about your library account, ID cards, and general questions about the library.

How do I find scholarly articles or books for my research paper? Where do I start?

Our Library Guides are a good place to start your research. These guides provide you with a list of databases that are relevant for just about any subject!

The One Search box on our homepage lets your search our book and video catalog, ebooks, and many of our databases at the same time. After your first search, you can Refine Your Search to the left to limit the results to Scholarly & Peer-Reviewed materials, Full Text Online, and specific Content Types.

How do I find books, ebooks, and videos in the library?

Our catalog will help you find books, ebooks, streaming videos, DVDs, and more. If you want a physical book or a DVD, you will need to write down the call number to find it on a shelf in the second floor of the library. Streaming films and ebooks can be accessed from any computer.

How do I renew items or see what I have checked out?

Go to My Library Account, where you can renew items, check on the status of an interlibrary loan (ILL) request, and see what you have checked out using your StarID.

My professor says I need to "cite my resources." How do I do that?

The library’s citation page or you can find handouts with citation examples by the reference desk. The Center for Academic Excellence also offers free help.

My professor put an article on e-reserve. How do I find it?

Use E-Reserves and search for your course number or instructor’s name. You need a password from your instructor. Once you have entered the password, you can view any documents that your instructor has put on e-reserve.

What can I check out from the library? 

You can borrow books, DVDs, CDs, laptops, cameras, voice recorders, calculators, and more. For a complete list, visit our borrowing information page.

How do I connect to the library’s Wi-Fi?

Wi-Fi (wireless internet) is available to Metropolitan State students, faculty and staff. Information Technology Services (ITS) has instructions on how to get it on your device.
