The Pre-major Advising Workshop (PAW) is designed for criminal justice and law enforcement students after admission to the University. PAW sessions introduce students to SLC programs, policies and procedures. All workshops are held at the Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Education Center in Brooklyn Park.

  • Attendance at a PAW is one of the requirements for law enforcement and criminal justice students to declare their major.
  • The student must complete online New Student Orientation first and then schedule in advance to attend a PAW by calling 763-657-3749 or email Mary Schober Martin. or by filling out this form.
  • Sessions are offered several times throughout the semester.
  • Space is limited and walk-ins are not accepted.

How to declare SLC major

Students are expected to complete any acceptance requirements for the major and be admitted by the time they complete 80 credits or within one year of transferring to Metropolitan State University (whichever comes later).  Students who do not have an approved major by this deadline may be prevented from registering. 

Requirements for acceptance into Law Enforcement and/or Criminal Justice Majors:

  • Successful completion of Writing I and Writing II
  • Completion of 30 credits
  • Attendance of a PAW
  • Earned GPA of 2.25 at Metropolitan State University

After completing these requirements, submit an Undergraduate Program Declaration (.pdf) form to your advisor as soon as possible.
