Carl Polding is Dean, College of Individualized Studies, and Interim Dean, School of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. His education and experience contribute primarily to Metropolitan State University's Individualized Studies program, where adult learners are given the authority and responsibility to design their own education in a way that welcomes the learning acquired through life experiences.

Before joining Metropolitan State, Carl was Dean of Instruction at Ridgewater Community and Technical College, Vice President and Dean of the College of Adult and Professional Studies and Graduate School at Bethel University and Director of Adult Programs at Crown College. While at Bethel University and Crown College, he also held teaching roles in adult programs. As higher education embraced online learning, Carl renewed his own learning through the development of roles at Capella University, teaching in doctoral programs in post-secondary and adult education, mentoring dissertations and serving on dissertation committees.

Carl holds a B.A. degree in history from Crown College, an M.A. in communication from Wheaton College Graduate School, and a Ph.D. in educational administration/adult and continuing education from Michigan State University.
