Biography
Sam Vang has been at the university since 1998. His training and background is in Student and Leadership Development. In addition to working full-time as an academic advisor in the College of Business and Management (CBM), he also teaches a course every spring for the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) in the Ethnic, Gender, Historical, and Philosophical Studies Department.
Prior to CBM, Vang also worked in the following departments at the university: Asian American Student Services, New Student Advising, International Student Services, and Dean of Students Office. Previously, he worked at two other higher education institutions: University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and University of Wisconsin La Crosse. There, his roles were diversity trainer, admissions recruiter, advisor, student services coordinator, and student leadership trainer/coordinator.
Outside of work, Sam is an avid mountain biker, traveler, hiker and outdoor enthusiast. In the spring and summer, you will most likely find him on one of the Twin Cities mountain bike trails or out on a lake fishing with his son. From late summer to late fall, you will find him hiking or camping at one of Minnesota State parks or National Parks. Winter is when Sam hibernates.
