ARTS 410 Art Theory and Practice
Art theory helps us understand our contemporary visual landscape. This theory-based course introduces students to big ideas in visual art. We will examine and critique theories in art and art history,which may include formalism, contextualism, postmodernism, aesthetics, critical race theory, structuralism,Marxism, feminism, queer theory, institutional critique, and postcolonialism/decolonization. In this course students will learn about art theorists and how artists utilize art theory in their practice.
