There is something unique about Metro State alumni: they are doers and optimists who look at the world as it is and believe in something better for themselves, their families, and the world. Some express this optimism through their work, as volunteers, or as committed community members. You are a shining light when the world is a little foggy and the way forward is unclear.

I am grateful to the Metro State alumni in our local and global community who are doing work to benefit others. The alumni featured in this issue of buzz are making a difference. These are just four stories, and I know there are more. Metro State alumni are everywhere in our community, working in many different professions and for many different organizations that create a ripple effect, touching the lives of people who may have never heard of Metro State University, but feel the impact of the work our alumni are doing to make the world a better place.

It has become common to expect data and metrics to quantify impact. Metro State excels at metrics like social mobility, and the alumni featured in this issue of buzz could share the measures that add up to success for their organizations. It is more difficult to quantify the impact of a supportive launching pad, or how a student takes what they learn from professors and their fellow students and turns that knowledge into caring that touches others. The value of our education at Metro State keeps growing and expanding like ripples on the water, moving others in our community toward something greater.

Usually, at the end of this section, I have an ask, or a call to action, but this time, I would like to thank you for all the good you do in the world. We are more than 52,000 alumni strong, and we can be proud that we are making a difference. Metro State helped us earn the degree that opened doors, and we took that opportunity to create better lives for ourselves, our families, and our community. Let’s be proud of each other and our university!

Stay well,
