Metro State Theater presents Animal Farm, George Orwell’s classic tale of revolution, power, and the fragility of truth, adapted for the stage by Ian Wooldridge and directed by Teresa Mock.

First published in 1946, Animal Farm follows a group of farm animals who overthrow their human owner in the hope of creating a just and equal society. As authority consolidates, however, ideals are compromised, language is manipulated, and the revolution begins to resemble the oppression it once rejected.

Mock’s production brings Orwell’s allegory to life through physical performance, ensemble storytelling, and striking visual imagery. The staging invites audiences to encounter the story not as a historical artifact, but as a living examination of power, persuasion, and the choices that shape public life.

In a time of widening economic disparity and exploitative demagogues, Animal Farm reminds us that our hope, and what is worth believing in, is ordinary people. Animal Farm addresses enduring questions amid today's competing narratives and growing distrust of institutions: How is trust earned and lost? How can language shape reality? And when do small compromises become something more dangerous?
