An illustration of a group of diverse individuals, some waiving, walking in the direction of an arrow saying "Vote," with the phrase "Democracy is in our hands" arcing above them.

Join us on Friday, November 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. for a night devoted to understanding and dissecting the midterm elections as they happened here in Minnesota. We will hear a keynote address by Erin Maye Quade, a candidate for Minnesota State Senate and a fierce advocate for reproductive rights.

Maye Quade is a former organizer and a former aide to Congressman Keith Ellison. She was the DFL-endorsed candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota in 2018. Following her Election Decompression address, you’ll hear from a panel of experts dissecting the results of the 2022 elections and what they mean for policy work and politics in 2023. These panelists include candidates for local office—Simon Trautman (previous candidate for Hennepin County Attorney), Lisa Norton (Candidate for Mayor of Eagle Lake and MAPL cohort 27), and Sammer Elkhateeb (candidate for Powderhorn Neighborhood Association Board and MAPL cohort 32)—as well as a nonpartisan data analyst who will discuss trends in voter turnout in the metro area.

This year, MAPL’s Election Decompression event will be live and in-person on Metro State’s Dayton’s Bluff Campus, in the Great Hall in New Main.

The event is open to Metro students and alumni, friends of Metro, and the wider Metro State community. The event includes dinner from Zakia Deli, so please RSVP to the Facebook event or the Engage event so that we have a sense of numbers.
