Mohamed A. Mohamed, a Metro State University alumnus and graduate of the Master of Science in Cyber Operations program, has been selected as a Visionary Student recipient of the Cyber Security Summit’s Visionary Leadership Award (VLA).

The award recognizes individuals whose leadership, innovation, and service are making a meaningful impact in cybersecurity. Mohamed was nominated for the honor and selected by the award judges for his contributions at the intersection of cybersecurity education, public service, and workforce development.

“Mohamed exemplifies the purpose of the Visionary Student Award,” said Dr. Faisal Kaleem, Director and Professor of Cyber at Metro State University. “What distinguishes Mohamed as a visionary is his ability to bridge cybersecurity education, public service, and workforce development in ways that produce lasting, scalable outcomes. He identifies gaps, builds solutions, and elevates others in the process.”

Mohamed’s work reflects an approach to cybersecurity that extends beyond technical expertise. By connecting education with service and workforce development, he has focused on addressing real needs, creating opportunities, and helping others find pathways into the cybersecurity field.

Founded in 2011, the Cyber Security Summit brings together leaders from industry, government, and academia to advance cybersecurity. Its annual Visionary Leadership Awards recognize innovative and impactful work across the cybersecurity community. Mohamed will be honored alongside other recipients at the Summit in Bloomington, Minnesota, in October.

For Kaleem, the recognition is especially meaningful as Mohamed’s former professor and mentor.

“Watching Mohamed grow as a student and leader has been incredibly rewarding,” Kaleem said. “I am proud of what he has accomplished and excited to see the impact he will continue to make. My hope is that he keeps learning and leading while giving back, lifting others along the way, and making Metro State proud.”

Mohamed’s recognition is a proud milestone for a Metro State graduate and a reflection of the impact alumni can make when they carry their education forward through leadership, service, and a commitment to strengthening their communities.
