North Star Promise Scholarship Alert: FAFSA or MN Dream Act forms must be submitted by June 1 to be considered for the scholarship next year!

The International Baccalaureate (IB) program gives you the opportunity to begin college-level studies while still in high school. Through IB, you can get a head start on your education at Metro State University.

Many high schools offer college-level courses through the IB program. IB exams are scored on a seven-point scale. If you earn a score of four or higher, you may be eligible to receive college credit at Metro State. The university’s IB credit policies—including accepted scores, awarded credits, and fulfilled requirements—are subject to change. Because Metro State is committed to ensuring students are well-prepared for college-level coursework, academic advisors may recommend that students with IB credits still enroll in certain introductory courses to support success in more advanced classes.

Additionally, IB exam credits may be used to satisfy GELS requirements or meet certain electives at Metro State. However, regardless of IB credit awards, students are encouraged to complete any placement exams listed on their New Student Checklist. GELS requirements refer to courses or categories of courses that all students must complete to graduate from Metro State. Check out the most up-to-date GELS information on the Academic and Graduation Requirements page to see what specific requirements you need to meet, and how your IB scores might meet some of them. For more information on how IB exams transfer to Metro State, including how they may meet specific program requirements, see Transferology.
