Welcome

Thank you for choosing to give back to Metro State University. Your time, energy, and passion help strengthen our community and support the success of current students. Whether you’re mentoring, speaking on panels, or lending a hand at events, your involvement makes a lasting impact.

We are grateful for your commitment and excited to have you as part of the Metro State volunteer community. This manual will guide you through everything you need to know to make your volunteer experience rewarding and meaningful.

Metro State University Alumni Volunteer Support and Expectations

Alumni volunteers are essential partners with Metro State University in serving our students along their educational journey. The Alumni Association is committed to carefully matching alumni volunteer interests, skills, and experience with relevant opportunities to serve on campus. In addition, we will offer well-planned, relevant, and ongoing training and support throughout the year. Alumni volunteers will be informed of training opportunities and events through regular communications from the Alumni Association. We encourage all our alumni to participate and take advantage of these opportunities.

The giving of your time means a great deal to us. The Alumni Association will confirm your volunteer participation and ask that you follow through on your commitment to faculty, staff, and students. If for any reason you are unable to participate, we ask that you notify Alumni Relations or relevant faculty/staff so we can reschedule or recruit other volunteers to fill open roles.

Alumni Volunteer Policies

  • Confidentiality - As a volunteer, there may be times when you come to know confidential information found in a university setting. All volunteers will check a confidentiality statement when they fill out the volunteer application form. Volunteers will not disclose or discuss privileged information with anyone. Any breach of confidentiality will result in the termination of the volunteer position.
  • Background Checks - Individuals who volunteer with minors are required to fill out a background check. The background check will be administered by the department you are volunteering with. TRIO is the only current volunteer opportunity requiring a background check.
  • Photo Release – As volunteers, there will be times when photos, videos, or other types of media will be taken at events or other functions where volunteers are present. We ask all volunteers to sign a photo release form. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach out to alumni relations at alumni.relations@metrostate.edu

Parking

Parking is available at each Metro State location. Midway and LECJEC locations have surface lots, while Saint Paul campus and the Minneapolis College locations have associated parking ramps. The daily visitor rate is $5 per day. For some volunteer events, the Alumni Association will give parking vouchers to volunteers while they serve on campus. It will be communicated to volunteers before serving if they have to pay for parking. To learn more about parking at each Metro State location, please visit this website: https://www.metrostate.edu/about/locations/parking-information

Metro State’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Metropolitan State University is committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and anti-racist learning and working environment. This commitment extends to our volunteers and community partners. We strongly believe in the values of equity and inclusion so that all members of our university and surrounding communities experience an authentic sense of belonging. Ending your Volunteer Role

Alumni volunteer service may end voluntarily by resignation or involuntarily by termination. Any volunteer may be reassigned to a position that is a more appropriate match to their skills and experience. We ask volunteers who want to end their volunteer service to reach out to Alumni Relations, so we can follow up with an exit survey and thank them for their service. You can email Alumni Relations at alumni.relations@metrostate.edu

Ongoing Alumni Volunteer Engagement and Recognition

We know that without our volunteers, we couldn’t serve our Metro State community! We are committed to engaging our volunteers in relevant ways and to recognize the contributions our volunteers make to furthering our mission. Please look for communications through email and social media for volunteer recognition events and initiatives throughout the year. We honor our volunteers in a variety of ways and want to make sure each volunteer feels appreciated for their service.

Thank you for volunteering!
