This course is designed to prepare students for calculus. Topics include polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions; the algebra of functions; multiple function representations; and an introduction to analytic geometry.

Note: Placement at MATH 120 Precalculus on the mathematics assessment test offered by Placement Assessment Office at 651-793-1464. Students whose prerequisites are not identified by the system would contact the Math and Statistics Department for an override at MATH@metrostate.edu.

Learning outcomes

General

  • Demonstrate adequate comprehension and ability to analyze and compute mathematical problems at the prerequisite level of Calculus I.
  • Understand the algebra of functions, with in-depth knowledge of polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions.
