NURS 312 Medical Surgical Nursing of the Adult

This course explores the principles of holistic, compassionate, person-centered nursing care of adults throughout the continuum of care. Management of alterations of health and wellness focused on medical and surgical issues for a wide range of individuals and populations will be emphasized utilizing principles of evidence-based practice, theory and holism. Students are introduced to the body of knowledge that guides nursing clinical judgement and decision making.

Prerequisite: Admission to Prelicensure BSN program. Co-requisite: NURS 313, NURS 314, NURS 414.

Learning outcomes

General

  • Apply evidence-based knowledge, theories, and conceptual models within a holistic person-centered worldview that incorporates client beliefs, values, experiences, and determinants of health to inform clinical judgement and decision making for clients with select medical and surgical health issues.
  • Articulate the value of pursuing practice excellence, lifelong learning, and professional engagement to foster professional growth and development.
  • Utilize the nursing process, MRM theory, and other frameworks to develop a plan of care that prioritizes safe, quality, evidence-based nursing care for clients impacted by select alterations in medical and surgical health and wellness.
  • Discuss the role of the nurse in collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
