Apply now! Spring priority deadline is October 1.

Thank you for applying to the Metro State University Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program. A standard part of a DNP FNP program is a minimum Statistics requirement. For any cohort, by the fall program start, DNP FNP admits must complete the required statistics course with an earned grade of B or better. The statistics course should meet the following criteria:

  • Post-BSN Admits: Statistics can be undergraduate-level, upper or lower division.
The BSN DNP progression requires all students take STAT 621 Advanced Biostatistics in Health Research in the first semester. To prepare for STAT 621, students must complete a college level statistics course prior to program start.
  • Post-ELMSN Admits: Statistics MUST BE graduate-level.
The ELMSN-DNP progression requires students to take a graduate statistics course within 5 years of program start. Graduate course numbers typically start at 5xx or higher and may require prior completion of a prerequisite course. The table below lists some course options to consider. If you have already completed a graduate-level statistics, you may request a course review. To initiate this process, send an email to the DNP admissions counselor with the course number, name, and course description and/or syllabus.

Prospective students may have questions about courses that meet requirements offered at Metro State or other institutions. See below for some suggestions.

Undergraduate Statistics course options for BSN to DNP Applicants

Note: This is not an exhaustive list. Other equivalent courses could be acceptable. Please inquire with your admissions counselor if a course you would like to take is not on the list. To take the courses at other institutions, contact that institution’s admissions department to enroll as a non-degree seeking student (also called a visiting student). Visiting students are not eligible for financial aid (including FAFSA) unless using a consortium agreement so plan accordingly. We do not receive any financial benefit from recommending courses offered by other institutions, offering suggestions because prospective students inquire.

*Course formats may vary from semester to semester and dependent upon institutional demand and professor contracts. Contact the school or view their course schedule online to see most up to date information.

Completing your requirements

It is highly recommended that applicants needing to complete the statistics requirement do so in the fall or spring, prior to their intended program start. Admitted students taking this course in the summer will be admitted conditionally. Applicants interested in taking an undergraduate or graduate statistics course at Metro State University should contact Admissions.

Upon successful completion, submit an official transcript to the DNP admissions counselor. For MN State institutions, simply email the DNP admissions counselor, as we can access your MN State grades, provided there is no hold on your account at that institution.

For inquiries or to submit a transcript, syllabus or notification of Statistics completion:
