Minnesota Residents, age 62 or older, are entitled without payment of tuition to enroll for courses on a space availability basis.
A senior citizen is a legal resident of Minnesota who has reached 62 years of age before the beginning of any term in which a course of study is pursued, or a person receiving a railroad retirement annuity who has reached 60 years of age before the beginning of the term, as defined in Minn. Stat. § 135A.51.
Your first step is to apply for admission to Metro State. If you are a senior citizen and want to audit courses, you will need to complete a visiting student application.
If you are a senior citizen and want to pursue a degree, you will need to complete a degree-seeking application for the program in which you want to enroll.
Once admitted, you need to complete the Senior Citizen Student Status Request form to verify your age and eligibility. You can upload your driver’s license through the form. Or, if you prefer, you can come in person and show your license to Gateway Student Services. You will be charged the regular tuition rate until this form is processed.
Once approved for Senior Citizen Student Status, this status will remain in effect. If you want to remove this status, you need to contact records.registration@metrostate.edu.
Students paying the senior citizen rate can register on the first day of the term.
The Senior Citizen Status Request Form must be submitted, along with a copy of your driver’s license, by Wednesday prior to the start of the term.
For senior citizen tuition information, go to the Tuition and Fees page, and select the Tuition for Senior Citizens tab on the left.
