Greetings from the Alumni Board of Directors,

I am honored to greet you as the President of the Metro State Alumni Board. Having served on the board in several capacities, including the board membership committee, the executive committee, and as alumni liaison for the Metro State Foundation Board, I have a holistic view of what it means to be an active supporter of Metro State. I am a firm believer in giving back to Metro State through service and support, because I want current and future students to have the same opportunities for success that I had.

One of the reasons I joined the Alumni Board is to help build a network of alumni with experience and insight to share with students and recent graduates. When I joined the board, we were coming out of a period of separation that had changed familiar patterns of connection. Over the last several years, we have regained our momentum, and while many of us have commitments to work and family, building a community of alumni has value. Although we approached the university from many starting points and went on to success in a wide range of fields, Metro State is a point of intersection for all of us, even if we never met while we were students.

But where to start? It might seem a little daunting if you are reconnecting with Metro State after years of focusing on other priorities, and we are here to help you! There is no one-size-fits-all opportunity, so we offer several ways to connect that can fit your schedule and interests. The simplest way to get connected is to join our LinkedIn group. It is a great way to stay current on alumni news and activities or submit an update on what you are doing to the alumni office as a news item. The next step is to attend events; the university and the alumni association both host gatherings to build community, and they are great lifelong learning opportunities. You can also volunteer your time for an event or on an ongoing basis as an alumni board committee member.

An impactful and relatively easy way to get involved is as an ambassador for the Metro State University Day of Giving, Giving to Grow. On March 26, 2026, we hope to inspire a critical mass of alumni to support Metro State and its students by making gifts to one of three priorities (more on that elsewhere in this issue of Buzz Magazine). Donating to your university is a common way to show your confidence in the next wave of students. Giving gifts of any size is a very tangible way to show your support for Metro State.

There are many ways to be an active supporter of Metro State. I hope you find the one that aligns with your goals.

Sincerely,

Matthew Moe ’12
