Metro State Theater and Ten Thousand Things Theater present Vasa Lisa, overlayed on a black and white image of a woman in silhouette profile and a house

Metro State University Theater is thrilled to announce its first-ever collaboration with Ten Thousand Things (TTT), one of the most innovative theater companies in the region. This groundbreaking partnership brings Vasa Lisa, a play that first premiered with TTT by celebrated Twin Cities playwright and TTT Artist Core Member Kira Obolensky, to the Student Center on the Saint Paul campus this spring.

Directed by TTT Artist Core member Kimberly Richardson, Vasa Lisa reimagines a classic fairy tale as a young woman’s journey into a mysterious forest and into herself. It’s a story about finding your voice, trusting your instincts, and discovering who you’re meant to be. Blending enchantment with honest emotion, the play speaks to anyone who has ever stood at the threshold of something new, uncertain but ready to take the next step.

This collaboration draws on the distinctive model TTT has pioneered over thirty years: intimate, actor-centered storytelling performed in the round, with audiences and performers sharing the same light. Stripped of elaborate sets and technical spectacle, their productions put the craft of the actor and the power of the story at the center of the experience. About the project, Caitlin Lowens, Artistic Director of TTT said, “Metro and TTT have been developing our partnership for years and taking this next step together is a joy. We can't wait for the student artists of Metro to experience the deep actor-audience relationship of the TTT model.”

For Metro State Theater, this collaboration opens exciting new possibilities. Students will work alongside professional artists, gaining firsthand experience with a nationally recognized production model while building relationships that will serve them throughout their careers. “This partnership reflects our shared belief that theater belongs everywhere and to everyone,” said Jonathan Beller, Associate Professor of Theater at Metro. “We’re excited to bring this experience to our students and our campus community.”
