EDU 001 Orientation to Urban Education

This is an online, D2L course about the Urban Teacher Program (UTP) program admission process and key urban education concepts for transfer students. This course is foundational to introducing all School of Urban Education (UED) teacher candidates to the mission and vision of the UED's anti-racism advocacy that impacts equity in education. Key concepts related to the urban school experience are the guiding principles that introduce teacher candidates to authors in the field of culturally relevant pedagogy about urban education, students, families, and schools. Additionally, steps to the admissions process for entry into the UTP are covered. Teacher candidates will receive a guided process by the instructor and UED¿s admissions staff for what is required (e.g., appropriate urban field hours documentation, Taskstream enrollment, a face-to-face meeting with UED's admissions academic advisor, and the required admission essay).

Special information

Note: Admission to this special session is granted only to students transferring in the EDU 200 and/or EDU 203 course (meaning have taken either or both at another institution). Special permission from UED's academic advisor is required to enroll. Questions can be directed to ued.advising@metrostate.edu.
