Biography

Steve Barrett, JD, serves as the interim vice president of Human Resources and Employee Experience. In this role, he provides leadership and expertise in creating a Human Resources team that enables the university’s aspiration to be an employer of choice in higher education. His work includes bringing a lens of equity, inclusion, and anti-racism to all aspects of HR work, focusing on building and maintaining a welcoming and inclusive culture that supports, engages, values, and develops our employees.

Prior to joining Metro State University, Steve served as the chief human resources officer with Minnesota State University, Mankato, where he was responsible for leading all functional areas within the HR office.

Steve has a BA in political science from the University of St. Thomas, and a MA and JD from Hamline University.
