The Metro State Cybersecurity Clinic and the Cybersecurity and Forensics Student Organization (CFSO), was pleased to host Jen VanDemmeltraadt, Deputy Chief Information Security Officer at Minnesota IT Services (MNIT), for an engaging guest lecture on Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC). VanDemmeltraadt shared valuable insights into how GRC frameworks shape effective cybersecurity programs and bridge the gap between policy and operational practice. Her discussion gave students a real-world perspective on how governance and risk management directly influence strong security outcomes and organizational resilience.
"Hearing from someone who leads cybersecurity strategy for the entire State of Minnesota really opened our eyes to how governance and leadership shape every technical decision,” said one student after the session. Metro State extends sincere gratitude to Jen for sharing her expertise and for inspiring thoughtful dialogue on the future of cybersecurity leadership in Minnesota.
At Metro State, the Cybersecurity Clinic does more than teach—it empowers students to apply their learning through community impact. Under faculty supervision, Cyber Clinic students provide free cybersecurity risk assessments, policy development, and compliance guidance to small businesses, nonprofits, and local governments. It’s education in action — protecting communities while preparing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.
