Biography
Dr. Sarah Beman is an associate professor in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Metropolitan State University's College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She is a highly accomplished nursing education expert with more than ten years of experience in leadership and management roles within pre-licensure and graduate nursing programs. Dr. Beman holds a PhD in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, an MA in Nursing Education, and a BA in Nursing from the College of St. Catherine, as well as a BA in Sociology and Women's Studies from Beloit College. She is also a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) and a Certified Public Health Nurse (PHN).
Dr. Beman's academic expertise is broad, encompassing key areas such as simulation, interprofessional education, curriculum development, doctoral project advising, faculty recruitment, development, and mentoring, and accreditation. She is particularly dedicated to empowering students from marginalized communities. A major focus of her scholarly work is simulation and interprofessional education (IPE), with peer-reviewed publications and presentations on topics like concept maps for simulation, IPE simulation to replace clinical experiences, and developing frameworks for IPE competencies. She has been recognized for her work, including receiving the International Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning Research Fellowship in 2021–2022.
Clinically, Dr. Beman has expertise in cardiac care, renal care, pediatrics, and public health. Beyond the university, she has served as the lead nurse and health services coordinator for the YMCA of the North – Camp Icaghowan since July 2011, where she also serves as a volunteer. She actively contributes to the professional community through local and national organizations focused on nursing education and simulation.
