Complete guide for posting Student Staff positions on Handshake.
- Contact the Career Center to request a Handshake account.
- Log in at https://app.joinhandshake.com/.
- All student staff jobs will be posted under “Metropolitan State University” as the (on-campus) employer.
- Select Jobs in the left column of the home dashboard.
- Select Create a Job in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Creating a Job – detailed steps
- Copy and paste the job description from your Word document. Select Continue.
- Complete fields as prompted: title, check Work Study if appropriate. Select Continue.
- Check location requirements. Select Continue.
- Onsite location: add St. Paul (or Minneapolis etc.), MN. Select Continue.
- Time requirements: select Part-time. Select Continue.
- Hours (optional): add number of hours/week.
- Employment duration: select Temporary or seasonal, add estimated start and end dates. Select Continue.
- Compensation and benefits, Expected pay: select Exact amount, add pay rate. Select Continue.
- Categorize your job: add Office and Administrative Support Workers. Select Continue.
- Candidate qualifications, work authorization: choose “Don’t disclose” link on the upper right. Check box.
- Leave blank: skills, school year, latest graduation date, major groups, minimum GPA. Select Continue.
- Choose Schools: Metro State is already selected. Select Continue.
- Application process: choose Application open and close dates; number of hires.
- How will candidates submit applications: select Handshake.
- Select Additional required documents (usually just Resume). Select Continue.
- Your Hiring Team: Messaging availability, leave blank. Email settings, select 1st and 3rd boxes. Select Continue.
- One last check: look over your posting, make any edits. Select Post Job!
- Reviewing Applications
- When you are ready to review applications for a position, select Jobs on your Handshake home screen.
- Select the title of the job you want to review.
- Select Review Applications to see materials for students who applied for the position.
- Hiring Completed
- Once you have filled a position, expire the job posting rather than deleting it so you have the posting for future reference.
- Expire the job posting by selecting Jobs and then the position title. In the middle of the screen, select Expire.
