LING 380 Special Topics in Linguistics
From the study of large language models of AI to Indigenous language preservation, linguistics is a large and exciting field. This course gives students an opportunity to explore topics and problems of current relevance in the field, or supplement earlier coursework with more detailed and more advanced study of a particular subject. Check the current Course Schedule for details about offered topics. Note: This course may be taken multiple times for credit as long as the topic is different.

- Identify key concepts pertaining to the specific linguistics topic.
- Apply key linguistics concepts to specific social/cultural contexts of the special topic.
- Critically respond to various perspectives on the special topic, at an intermediate college level.
- Apply the lens of bias and discrimination (racial, gender, ability, etc.) to the special topic.
- Employ the methodologies of linguistics such as the analysis of data and/or case studies.
