THEA 120 Introduction to Acting

This foundational course introduces students to the basics of acting. Students will learn fundamental techniques in voice, movement, and character development through practical exercises, improvisation, and scene work. The course covers script analysis, stage presence, and collaborative performance skills. Designed for beginners, this class provides a supportive environment to explore acting essentials and build confidence in performance. No prior experience required.

  • Demonstrate body awareness, focus, and vocal control through exercises in movement, posture, and relaxation techniques.
  • Use fundamental vocal techniques, including proper breathing, articulation, and projection, to deliver clear and expressive dialogue.
  • Identify key elements such as given circumstances, relationships, and character objectives in plays and scenes.
  • Perform basic improvisation exercises to enhance spontaneity, active listening, and character development.
  • Create and portray simple characters by identifying objectives, tactics, and obstacles within short scenes or monologues.
