Biography

Dr. Muhammad Usama Islam is an assistant professor of Management Information Systems at Metro State University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He holds a PhD and MS in Computer Science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a BSc in Computer Science and Engineering from the Islamic University of Technology in Bangladesh.

Dr. Islam’s research focuses on information systems, healthcare informatics, cybersecurity, human-computer interaction, and explainable artificial intelligence (XAI). His work emphasizes the ethical design, usability, and adoption of emerging technologies in healthcare and aging populations. He integrates machine learning, deep learning, and user experience (UX) methodologies to address challenges in technology adoption, accessibility, and trust in AI-driven systems.

He has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as IEEE Access, PLOS One, Sensors, and Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice, accumulating more than 500 citations with an h-index of 12. His research has also been featured in major international conferences, including DIS, HCII, and DESRIST.

Before joining Metro State University, Dr. Islam taught at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the Asian University of Bangladesh, earning excellent student evaluations and leading programming teams to national recognition. He has received multiple academic awards and serves as a reviewer and technical committee member for international journals and conferences.

Dr. Islam’s current work advances the responsible integration of AI and human-centered technologies to promote accessibility, trust, and improved quality of life through data-driven innovation.
