BIOL 621 Graduate Internship

This course provides students with a work-related experience in a scientific industry, agency or organization connected to the specific field of biology they have been studying. In this experience, students will draw on their learning from the content, seminar and skills classes they have taken as part of the MS Biology program. Students planning to earn a PSM certified degree must take this course.

Prerequisites: Admission to the MS Biology graduate program Note: Graduate status required or Natural Science Department approval.

  • Apply the scientific knowledge and skills learned in their coursework to an applied project or other assignment with an industry employer, government agency, non-governmental organization or community group relevant to the student's chosen focus area
  • Effectively utilize professional communication skills and understanding of project management and/or organizational communication in a professional scientific setting
  • Successfully perform internship responsibilities as approved by internship host and the student's advisor or advising committee
  • Apply theories and principles of organizational communication or project management to to the analysis of the internship experience
