Welcome to MN Cyber Institute, a statewide initiative that provides quality education, innovative public/private partnerships, interdisciplinary research, and community engagement. The institute also serves as the center for cybersecurity at Metro State University.

Strategic Vision

Position Minnesota among the top-ten leading states in cybersecurity.

Mission

Make Minnesota a national leader in cybersecurity through education, innovative public/private partnerships, interdisciplinary research, and community engagement.

Goals

The Executive Director and Sponsors have formalized the following set of goals:

  • Enhance Minnesota’s cybersecurity workforce
  • Foster cybersecurity education and research at all levels
  • Act as a cybersecurity clearinghouse and resource for the entire state
  • Attract new financial, healthcare, transportation, and technology companies to Minnesota

Metro State University is Minnesota’s only institution recognized by the National Security Agency (NSA) with dual designations as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (NCAE-CD) and Cyber Operations (NCAE-CO).

NCAE-CD and NCAE-CO institutions receive formal recognition from the U.S. Government as well as opportunities for prestige and publicity for their role in securing our nation's information systems. The Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity degree is aligned with the NCAE-CD designation and the Master of Science in Cyber Operations is aligned with the NCAE-CO designation. These designations ensure that the programs meet rigorous national standards in technical depth, applied learning, and ethical practice.
