Social intrapreneurship (SI) occurs when employees develop innovative products, services, or management practices that support their company’s business objectives while also aligning with their personal social and environmental passions. Despite its potential, few organizations have widely adopted SI. Based on a systematic review of 36 academic studies, Dr. Michael Corbett developed a framework—called Strategic Social Intrapreneurship (SSI)—that provides a structured and comprehensive approach to motivating, organizing, and growing employee-led social initiatives across the organization. Two forces make SSI especially important today: (a) political pressures have heightened scrutiny of traditional CSR and related efforts, accompanied by increasing accusations of “checkbox” compliance; (b) the rise of AI fosters flatter, more democratized organizations, better empowering employees to act as both business innovators and agents for societal good. This presentation aims to spark a renewed conversation about social intrapreneurship—highlighting its strategic importance in achieving meaningful and lasting business results.
