Metro State Theater Presents: A Thanksgiving Play, with an illustration of a turkey made to look like a hand with a single middle feather standing up

The bird is the word!

This November, Metro State Theater serves up The Thanksgiving Play, Larissa FastHorse’s razor-edged satire that slices into privilege, guilt, and performative wokeness: fast, messy, and wickedly funny.

Four painfully well-meaning artists set out to create a “culturally sensitive” Thanksgiving pageant and end up igniting a glorious dumpster fire of good intentions. Sharp, self-aware, and unapologetically hilarious, FastHorse’s play skewers the pitfalls of allyship and the theater world’s attempts to “get it right.”

Directed by Jonathan Beller, the production brings this biting comedy to life with energy, absurdity, and a healthy dose of self-reflection.

Performances take place at the Whitney Fine Arts Theater on November 14, 15, 20, and 21 at 7:30 p.m., with a final matinee on November 22 at 2 p.m.

Admission is free, though audience members are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item in support of the university’s student pantry.

Join us for a play that proves even the best intentions can go hilariously wrong—and that sometimes the biggest turkey at Thanksgiving isn’t on the plate.
