NURS 301 Theoretical Foundations for Nursing Practice

This course examines the foundations for the identity and practice of professional nursing with emphasis on the values and theoretical perspectives that support practice. Theoretical frameworks from nursing and other disciplines will be introduced with emphasis on holism, equity, anti-racism and social justice. Theories will be critiqued, analyzed, and applied.

Prerequisites: Admission to RN-BSN program. Co-requisites NURS 302.

General

  • Identify critical values of professional nursing, including holism, equity, anti-racism, and social justice.
  • Demonstrate critical analysis and application of selected theories to the clinical decision-making process.
  • Apply theory-based holistic care that addresses issues of social justice and equity.
  • Reflect on metacognition in teaching/learning.
