Healthy Campus Coalition

What is Healthy Campus?

Healthy Campus 2020 is a joint effort with the American College Health Association to provide higher education institutions with a framework for improving the health status of their campus. The framework provides collaborative ways to work with healthcare services, academic and student affairs, administration and other institutions to create a healthier campus.

Metropolitan State University has developed a Healthy Campus Coalition Work group made up of staff and faculty, which provides an interdisciplinary way of approaching health and wellness throughout our campuses. If you are interested in joining this work group, contact us via email at healthcare.services@metrostate.edu.

Vision

Campus communities in which all members live long, healthy lives.

Mission

Healthy Campus 2020 will strive to:

  • Identify current and ongoing nationwide health improvement priorities in higher education;
  • Increase campus community awareness and understanding of determinants of health, disease and disability, as well as the opportunities for progress;
  • Provide measurable objectives and goals that can be used at institutions of higher education;
  • Engage multiple stakeholders to take actions that are driven by the best available evidence and knowledge to strengthen policies, improve practices and empower behavior change;
  • Identify and promote relevant assessment, research and data collection needs.

Overarching Goals

  • Create social and physical environments that promote good health for all.
  • Support efforts to increase academic success, productivity, student and faculty/staff retention, and life-long learning.
  • Attain high-quality, longer lives free of preventable disease, disability, injury and premature death.
  • Achieve health equity, eliminate disparities and improve the health of the entire campus community.
  • Promote quality of life, healthy development and positive health behaviors.

Surveys

Part of our approach to Healthy Campus is ensuring that we have the most up to date data in regards to our student's health needs. We have previously participated in Boynton's Health Survey in 2008, 2011 and 2013. Starting in 2017, Metropolitan State has participated in the National College Health Assessment, which is a partner of the American College Health Association. For more information on survey results, please contact Healthcare and Wellness Services.

By being an institutional member, Metropolitan State has the ability to connect with other like-minded colleges and universities to assist us in becoming even more successful in providing our students with health and wellness initiatives.
