Sept: 17: Jerry Cotton Memorial Golf Tournament commemorates 10th and final year

The Jerry Cotton Memorial Golf Tournament commemorates 10th and final year.

For nearly a decade, the Jerry Cotton Memorial Golf Tournament raised money for the Jerry Cotton Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Endowed Scholarship. Now self-sustaining, the 10th and final tournament will be Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Emerald Green Golf Course in Hastings, Minn.

Since its start, the golf tournament has raised over $89,000 and awarded scholarships to 12 Metropolitan State students from the School of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. The tournament committee has set a goal to raise $20,000 this year. Because of the community’s generous support, the scholarship has become self-sustaining and will continue to help students complete their education at Metropolitan State for years to come.

This last tournament also falls on Jerry Cotton’s birthday. His passion was education, his love was teaching and his desire was to be a role model for young people today. This tournament fulfills his dream to provide scholarships for students going into law enforcement and criminal justice careers.

You can register for the tournament here. Find other details on the tournament’s Facebook page. The registration deadline is Sept. 7 and is limited to the first 144 golfers. Single $100 registration includes green fees, 18 holes, golf cart and meal. Day-of registration begins at 10:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at noon. All players will receive a sleeve of monogrammed golf balls and a T-shirt. All registration fees, donations and auction purchases will go toward future student scholarships.

The golf tournament is open to all participants, and those who don’t golf are invited to register for the dinner and awards banquet. There are also many ways in which non-golfers can contribute, such as donations, sponsorships and contributions to the live auction.
