In July 2018, Dr. Nadine Haley, a Secondary Education professor at Metropolitan State University, presented at the 29th Annual WLU Literacies for All Summer Institute, held in Baltimore by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). The NCTE presentation, Culturally Responsive Pedagogy as Agency to Just Instruction, focused on the use of culturally responsive pedagogy to provide students with mirrors into their own lives and windows into the lives of others. Haley also discussed literacy practices, strategies, and dispositions that create equitable classrooms.
Four Metropolitan State students enrolled in the Urban Teacher Program also attended the conference: Courtney Antone, a scholarship recipient; Andrew Edwards, a Fall 2018 Outstanding Student; Olivia Wulf; and Ashley Kemp.
