Lucia Rivas named Mark M. Welter World Citizen Award recipient

Lucia Rivas, a psychology student at Metropolitan State and a student ambassador for the Advancement Division, is a recipient of the Mark M. Welter World Citizen Award for spring 2020.

The award is given to Minnesota State students who exemplify an understanding of the interconnected world in which we live. Rivas has been instrumental in building a student philanthropy program at Metropolitan State and has had her work published in The Metropolitan student newspaper.

In her nomination letter, Rivas is described as an exceptional student and active in student leadership at Metropolitan State. She was the first Student Ambassador hired by University Advancement and has been instrumental in building a student philanthropy program. She refers to Metropolitan State as a family, saying that it is only by joining together that we can achieve our personal goals and our vision for the world. Rivas also leads the student psychology club. She is not afraid to ask for help and input from others, knowing that all have experience and expertise to share.
