Graduation Application Process

Congratulations on graduating.

  1. Download the Commencement Packet as a resource for everything from parking at commencement to where to get your cap and gown.

  2. Register for the workshop, course number WKSP GRAD—Graduation Requirements, during the semester you intend to graduate.

    Register with your regular courses through eServices (quick add ID #000001). Once you are enrolled in the workshop, your student account will automatically be billed the $20 graduation fee, which can also be paid through eServices.*

    WKSP GRAD is an online workshop through Brightspace that takes the place of the Intent to Graduate form. It contains all information necessary concerning the commencement ceremony and graduation in general — we estimate it will take about 30 minutes to read through the material.

  3. Contact your advisor to do graduation planning. Your advisor finalizes your paperwork for graduation. You can register for this workshop through September 5, 2017.

    If you miss this date, you will need to file the Appeal to Graduate Past Deadline Form (.pdf). Follow the instructions listed on the form.

    If you wish to walk at commencement but will not graduate until the following semester, you must use the Appeal to Walk at Commencement Form (.pdf).

Diploma Information

The $20 graduation fee also covers the cost of your diploma. Diplomas are mailed to graduates 4-5 weeks after the end of the semester.

To request a duplicate diploma, complete the Duplicate Diploma Request Form. Do NOT use this form to request your original diploma.

Honors Eligibility Information

The honors designations and the cumulative GPA required to achieve them are:

  • Summa Cum Laude 3.900 or higher
  • Magna Cum Laude 3.800 to 3.899
  • Cum Laude 3.700 to 3.799

To qualify for an honors designation, undergraduate students must have completed a minimum of 30 upper division credits in graded (A-F courses) at Metropolitan State University.

The cumulative GPA will be calculated on the basis of all graded courses taken at Metropolitan State University.

Critical Information about Accommodation for Individuals with Disabilities

NOTE: A request should be made one month prior to commencement to ensure your accommodation needs can be addressed.

If you have any concerns about your family or friends' ability to attend the ceremony due to issues like their ability to walk long distance, manage stairs, or hear at the commencement ceremony, you must contact at Include a daytime telephone number for follow up.

The commencement ceremony is in the Auditorium at the Minneapolis Convention Center. There will be two ceremonies, you only need to attend one. It may be a difficult walk for elderly people or others with mobility challenges.

The auditorium is a beautiful, 'theater-like' room. Much of the audience will be sitting in sections that are sloped and accessible only by climbing stairs.

If you are concerned that members of your party may have difficulty climbing stairs, please advise them to arrive early enough to be seated on the main floor. Please plan to arrive 30-45 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony or sooner.

Reserved seating is limited and provided only for people who have disabilities plus one companion and only when their graduates have arranged for that service through Metropolitan State's Center for Accessibility Resources. Although we try to keep families together we cannot guarantee this due to limited space. Tickets are required. Watch your university email for ticket information.

If you know a person with a disability will be attending your graduation ceremony and will require accommodations, contact or 651-793-1549.
