An international student’s SEVIS record can be transferred from one SEVP-certified school to Metro State.

Metro State SEVIS School Code: SPM214F01116000

This typically happens at the end of a student’s program of study, end of OPT employment, or end of STEM Extension employment; however, a student can transfer while they are still completing their degree at another institution.

When a student transfers their SEVIS record from a different institution to Metro State and the student is in “Active” status, the student does not require a new SEVIS record and will not need to pay a new I-901 SEVIS fee. The student’s current SEVIS record is simply transferred from their current institution to Metro State.

It is important to inform ISS of the student’s current SEVIS status before and during the I-20 request process.

  • End of program, end of OPT employment, or end of STEM Extension employment transfer
    • The SEVIS record must be transferred within the student’s 60-day grace period following their end of program date or employment end date
    • The student must begin their new program of study within 5 months from the student’s end of program date or employment end date
  • Mid-program transfer
    • The SEVIS record may be set to transfer to Metro State after the end of the student’s current term of study
    • The student must begin their new program of study at Metro State within 5 months from the last day of the student’s last term of study
  • If a student is not in “Active” status and does not intend on leaving the U.S. before transferring to Metro State, the student does not require a new SEVIS record. However, if the student has been out of “Active” status for more than 5 months, the student will need to pay a new I-901 SEVIS fee. The student will need to work with ISS to request “Reinstatement” of the student’s SEVIS record.
  • If a student is not in “Active” status and intends on leaving the U.S. before transferring to Metro State, the student will require a new SEVIS record and will need to pay a new I-901 SEVIS fee. If the student’s F-1 visa is valid the student will not need to apply for a new F-1 visa outside of the U.S. Therefore, it is recommended to transfer a SEVIS record prior to leaving the U.S.

In order to request the transfer of their SEVIS record to Metro State, students must be admitted to Metro State.

  • Students should request the transfer of their SEVIS record to Metro State prior to the end of the semester to ensure timely processing once the semester is complete.
  • Students completing their program, ending OPT employment, or ending STEM Extension employment must have their SEVIS record transferred to Metro State prior to the end of their 60-day grace period.

Students must work with their current institution to complete any necessary paperwork required for the transfer of their SEVIS record.

Metro State does NOT require a transfer-In form to be completed by the students’ current institution.

The student’s admission letter included a link so they may submit their I-20 Request and upload your financial documentation.

This request may only be completed AFTER the student has been admitted to Metro State. Forms submitted prior to admission will not be processed.

Students are required to upload their current passport copy and financial documentation.

Once a SEVIS record has been transferred to Metro State any employment (on-campus, CPT, OPT, or STEM Extension) ends the date the record is transferred.

After the record is transferred, the student’s previous institution no longer has any access to the student’s SEVIS record.

If a student’s plans change and the student no longer wishes to transfer to Metro State the student will need to contact ISS immediately.

Once the student’s SEVIS record has been transferred to Metro State and the student has completed the I-20 Request, Metro State will issue a “Transfer Pending” I-20 to the student. Students are required to check-in with International Student Services within 15 days from the beginning of the new term.
