International student orientation

The International student service provides an International Student Orientation to welcome newly admitted international students. It is required by immigration law that first-year F-1 students must attend the International Student Orientation. The event provides essential information to assist new international students make a successful cultural and academic transition into their new settings.

International Student Orientation is held prior to the start of the fall and spring semesters. The international student service hosts the events for new incoming international students every spring and fall semester. It is mandatory that you attend this orientation. The international student orientation is different from the other university session you have to attend prior to this semester. You will meet staff, learn about health insurance and review some important guidelines as they pertain to maintaining F-1 student under the new SEVIS system.

This session will also cover information that directly affects you as an international student, such as requirements for work authorization, traveling, health insurance, program extension, and tuition. If you are unable to attend, you must make an individual appointment with the International Student Advisor to go over this information. A hold is placed on your record that will prevent you from registering for courses until you attend the orientation or make an individual appointment to receive the information. At the end of the session, there will be plenty of time for questions and answers
